Everyone loves an underdog, especially when it comes to sports betting. They are the ones that get the points, and furthermore, an upset win on the moneyline becomes very profitable.
The NFL has plenty of underdogs who cover each week, and the Week 8 slate of games will be no different. The hard part is figuring out which teams will do so. Here is a guide to the best underdog choices.
Jacksonville Jaguars (+3) vs Philadelphia Eagles
The pick: Jaguars +3
The first underdog to get behind is the Jacksonville Jaguars. They have been in a funk of late and have a tough matchup this week against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Jacksonville is at home and gets three points in a game that feels closer to a toss-up. Look for the Jaguars defense to bounce back, and the addition of running back Carlos Hyde should help. As long as quarterback Blake Bortles isn’t awful as he has been of late, the Jaguars will cover.
New York Giants (-1) vs Washington Redskins
The pick: Giants -101
A good choice for an underdog to pull off the upset is the New York Giants. It is certainly not a huge upset as they are only 1-point underdogs against the Washington Redskins, but New York is at home and should find some rhythm offensively against a Washington defense that does have some vulnerability. The Giants at -101 on the moneyline are a nice choice.
Carolina Panthers (+2) vs Baltimore Ravens
The pick: Panthers +110
The Carolina Panthers are another good underdog choice to pull an upset. They are 2-point underdogs to the Baltimore Ravens but get the matchup at home. The Ravens are definitely a solid team but if quarterback Cam Newton and running back Christian McCaffrey can get the ground game going, Carolina should have a good chance to win. The price is right with the +110 odds to take Carolina.
Green Bay Packers (+9.5) vs Los Angeles Rams
The pick: Packers +9.5
The Green Bay Packers are not used to being big underdogs but they are traveling to face off with the undefeated Los Angeles Rams this week. Green Bay is a 9.5-point road underdog, which is unfathomable in the Aaron Rodgers era. It’s easy to see Los Angeles is favored, but this spread does seem too high. Even if the Packers are down by double digits late, look for Rodgers to lead his team down the field for a touchdown to help Green Bay produce the backdoor cover.
Oakland Raiders vs Indianapolis Colts (-3)
The pick: Raiders +135
The Oakland Raiders aren’t a very good team and they just dealt receiver Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys. Even so, they are at home this week and getting three points against an Indianapolis Colts team that isn’t very good in its own right. The Raiders should be able to cover this spread and are a good pick to pull off the upset at the +135 moneyline odds.
Cleveland Browns (+8) vs Pittsburgh Steelers
The pick: Browns +8
those are some of the top underdog choices, the best one is the Cleveland Browns. They are going on the road this week to face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Traditionally this would be a blowout win for Pittsburgh, but Cleveland is improved this year while the Steelers are down. The Browns went toe-to-toe with Pittsburgh in the first matchup this year and an eight-point spread in favor of the Steelers is too high. Take Cleveland to keep this margin within a touchdown or lower.
