It has been a season of high-scoring performances, and Thursday Night Football in Week 8 was no different, as the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins easily outpaced the expected scoring total. That was the appetizer, with the main course of games coming on Sunday.
The oddsmakers are trying to adjust by pushing the lines up, but still the “over” has been the winning choice the majority of the time in 2018. Will that be the case once again in Week 8? Check below for the best NFL total plays among the games on the schedule.
Jaguars vs Eagles (Over/Under 43)
Two teams that have not been a big part of the scoring explosion are the Jaguars and Eagles. They will face off this week with a scoring total of 43. The Jacksonville defense has not lived up to its billing the past few weeks but has too much talent to stay down for long. The Jaguars’ offense isn’t very good and even though Philly has some offensive talent, the “under” is the choice on this game.
Chiefs vs Broncos (Over/Under 53.5)
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to blow past their scoring totals but the oddsmakers don’t seem to be adjusting enough. Case in point: The Chiefs’ game this week against the Denver Broncos only has a 53.5-point scoring total. The Broncos don’t have a great offense but will be forced to get into a shootout as they try to keep pace. The “over” the call in this one.
Colts vs Raiders (Over/Under 50.5)
The Indianapolis Colts are going on the road to play against the Oakland Raiders. It might not be the prettiest game as both teams are below average, there should be a lot of big plays. The scoring total is listed at 50.5 points and that number is too low. Take the “over” on this total.
Packers vs Rams (Over/Under 56)
The Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Rams have a pair of elite quarterbacks. The Rams have one of the best offenses in the NFL while Green Bay will counter with Aaron Rodgers trying to dominate through the air. Los Angeles will get its points in this one. In order for the “over” on the 56-point total to hit, Rodgers will need to deliver. Do you feel comfortable betting against him? Me neither. Take the “over” on this game.
Patriots vs Bills (Over/Under 44.5)
The New England Patriots are one of the highest-scoring teams in the NFL but they are facing off against the lowest on “Monday Night Football.” The Buffalo Bills have struggled to score all year and figure to get blown out in this one. The scoring total is 44.5 points and it may come down to whether or not Buffalo can score a garbage time touchdown. The feeling is that they will get one in the fourth quarter for the “over” to hit. The Patriots will do more than enough on their end to hit the total.
49ers vs Cardinals (Over/Under 42.5)
While the “over” is the right call on many of the games this season, the best choice on the scoring total for Week 8 is actually an “under.” The San Francisco 49ers are hitting the road on Sunday to take on the Arizona Cardinals.
The 49ers have a backup quarterback under center in C.J. Beathard and their offense has struggled since he was forced into the lineup. The Cardinals have a rookie at quarterback in Josh Rosen and just fired their offensive coordinator. Arizona has not moved the ball efficiently all season. These two teams struggle scoring and the total of 42.5 points is a low one but still too high. Take the “under” in this matchup between the Cardinals and 49ers.
