On the heels of Si Woo Kim’s surprising win at THE PLAYERS Championship, the PGA Tour heads back to Texas for the AT&T Byron Nelson. World No. 1 Dustin Johnson will again garner the most attention and is the betting favorite.
Masters Tournament champion Sergio Garcia defends his AT&T Byron Nelson crown against a wagering field that features six of the top 20 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Dallas native Jordan Spieth will peg it up this week, still searching for his first win in the Lone Star State. He’s come close, finishing runner-up three times, but still has zero wins. This is the place he finished in the top 20 as a 16-year old kid. Spieth will definitely be under the microscope in his hometown and after some sloppy play the past few months, including a missed cut at last week’s PLAYERS. The world’s No. 6 will try to get back on track on his home turf.
Other players that could contend this week include Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Jason Day and rookie Ollie Schniederjans. Koepka lost to Garcia in a playoff here a year ago. After struggling for months, Reed is playing well the last few weeks and looks ready to win again. Aussie Day is always a contender any time he tees it up, and young Schniederjans has to be inspired seeing the 21-year old Kim win last week.

Studs
Dustin Johnson +500 –  Johnson continues to be by far the best and most consistent player on the planet, posting top-6 finishes in seven of his first nine starts this year. For his standards, he played poorly last week at THE PLAYERS and still finished in the top 15 as a closing 68 vaulted him all the way up to a T12. He’s a perfect 7 for 7 at the Byron Nelson with four top 10s. Top 5 feels like a given this week, and win wouldn’t shock anyone.
Brooks Koepka +1500 – He’s getting very close to putting it all together. After an equipment change in the offseason, Koepka started the year out real slow and some were beginning to wonder about him, but the ex-FSU star has turned things around. His last five starts go like this: T9 – T11 – 2 – T5 – T16. That’s solid and consistent. Only thing missing is a win and he could get that this week where he lost in a playoff a year ago.
Dud
Jason Day +1250 – He continues to struggle with his game. Personal problems have damaged his attitude and injuries seem to follow the Aussie around. He is likely to be matched up against an elite player and doesn’t have the game right now to keep up. Fade Jason all DAY long!
Flier
Kevin Tway +4950 –  The kid is finally playing up to the type of golf we thought he would after having an outstanding amateur career at Oklahoma State. He didn’t play last week, but in his last three starts he has three top 5 finishes. That’s strong! Look for Tway to keep the pedal down and churn out another top finish, and possibly his first career win.
