The Numbers
2: The number of double-digit favorites that we have in Week 2 after there wasn’t a single team favored by at least 10 in Week 1. Both the Raiders and Seahawks are candidates to end up being the biggest favorites of the week. Oakland is giving a whopping 13.5-points to the Jets this weekend, while the Seahawks are -13 against the 49ers.
2: The number of away favorites on the board in Week 2. That number could change with the Cowboys taking on the Broncos and with the Titans and Jaguars set at a pick ’em. For now, though. The Cardinals and Patriots are the only road favorites. Arizona is the biggest favorite of the bunch at -7 against an Indianapolis team that was putrid in Week 1 without Andrew Luck. Let’s keep in mind that Arizona is likely going to be without David Johnson as well. The Cardinals being favored by a full touchdown on the road in Indianapolis without their best player is a real testament to just how bad the Colts have looked with Scott Tolzien under center.
5: The number of strange connections that are worth following in Week 2. May we offer the following drama?
-Sean McDermott’s first road game as a head coach with the Bills comes at Carolina, a place he was a defensive coordinator for five seasons.
-Bruce Arians is bringing his Cardinals back to the place that effectively made him a head coach for the first time in his career with Indianapolis.
-Mike Glennon’s first ever road game as a full-time starting quarterback is going to be against the Tampa Bay team which drafted him.
-Andy Reid is going to be welcoming in his former team to his new home for the very first time.
-Sean McVay is going to be coaching against Jay Gruden, the man who gave him his first coaching job when both men were in the UFL with the Florida Tuskers.
38.5: The number representing the lowest total of Week 2. Both the Texans and Bengals have a lot of problems at the moment. Cincinnati was shutout last week by the Ravens, while the Texans only scored a single touchdown against Jacksonville. Both teams were beaten and beaten badly by division rivals. Now, with both teams built firmly on the defensive side of the ball, it was relatively predictable that this would be the game with the lowest total of the week, especially since it’s a Thursday nighter.
54: The number representing the highest total of Week 2. Not surprisingly, the first game ever at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the game that is going likely feature a boatload of points. The Falcons and Packers are both high-flying offenses, though it should be noted that the two teams only combined to score 39 points last week in Week 1 victories. Still, do you really want to bet against Matty Ice and Aaron Rodgers when they’re matched up with one another? There’s a reason why this total is so darn high.
